School library

The school operates a designated specialist library for children with special needs. The library is managed by the Special Duties Teacher. Children are brought to the library each week and are encouraged to borrow books which they can take home. The school purchase specialist library equipment and books each year to ensure that material is always up to date.

Multi-sensory room

Our multi-sensory room improves the development of thought, intelligence and social skills. Multi-sensory environments offer people with physical disabilities, cognitive impairments and other challenging conditions the opportunity to enjoy and control a variety of sensory experiences.

Time spent in a multi-sensory room has been shown to increase concentration, focus attention, improve alertness, awaken memories, and to improve mobilisation, creativity, social relations and communications, and general awareness of the surrounding world. Our multi-sensory room provides sensory stimulation for students isolated in their perceptual disabilities. Teachers and SNAs use the multi-sensory room for short periods throughout the school day to assist pupils focus on the curriculum.

Soft play room

The school operates designated and specialist soft play area where pupils are hoisted from their wheelchairs into a secure environment. Teachers and physiotherapists work in a collaborative manner so that children can have time out of their wheelchairs, maintain posture and learn in a playful manner.
